Natural Anti-Inflammatory Diets For Your Dog

What foods cure inflamation in dogs?

Can Dogs Have Inflammation?

Yes. Inflammation is a body’s (Dog or Humans) natural response to an illness or injury in an attempt to heal itself.  Believe it or not, it’s actually a sign of a healthy, working immune system. When a dog’s body senses an issue, it sends white blood cells and fluids to the area of pain  — causing inflammation — to begin the healing process.

Acute inflammation isn’t always cause for concern. For example, a pup's foot may become swollen if it has a thorn stuck in it, but once you’ve removed and treated the thorn, the inflammation should lessen.

Chronic inflammation, however, may be cause for concern and should looked into by a veterinarian, as it can lead to more issues later in life. There are a variety of reasons for chronic inflammation, such as arthritis, seasonal allergies, or a digestive condition. Luckily, there are many great foods that can help your best friend!

Natural Anti-Inflammatory Ingredients For Dogs

Ginger

Known by some as the miracle root, this spicy treat has many health benefits in addition to being an excellent source of Anti-Inflammatory nutrients.

Pumpkin

In addition to being packed with vitamins A , C and E, Pumpkin is also rich in the carotenoid beta-cryptoxanthin. This carotenoid can reduce inflammation and swelling which has been linked to a reduction in the symptoms and risk of arthritis.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory that not only reduces inflammation, it also works to prevent it from returning.

Blueberries

Blueberries have high levels of antioxidants that fight inflammation in both dogs and their owners. They are also a great source of vitamin C, which helps regulates the growth, development and repair of all body tissues.

Coconut

Coconut is filled with fatty acids that are known to help fight infections contributing to inflammation. Additionally, coconut is great in aiding a healthy skin and coat, particularly for dogs who struggle with dryness and itching.

Celery

Low in calories, high in crunchiness.  Make celery a staple in your dogs diet as its a great way to reduce inflammation, clean teeth, and ensure your pup gets a low calorie treat.

Fish

Next time you make fish for the family, leave a small portioned unseasoned for your pup. Fish, especially salmon, is a great source of omega-3s — it contains two different types, DHA and EPA. Omega-3s are nutrients that reduce inflammation and ease joint pain.

As always, be sure to check with a vet before introducing new foods or vitamins to your dogs diet.  Its also important to gradually introduce new foods to ensure they don't get sick.
